GENERAL INFORMATION
Homework/Agenda: Students will have approximately 40 – 60 minutes of homework per night. Homework consists of a practice or reinforcement of what was taught during the day and should be completed independently. All homework assignments will be listed in the student agenda. I will sign the agenda when the homework has been copied exactly the way it has been written on the homework board. When your child completes the night’s assignments he or she should show it to you and then you’ll need to sign the agenda after my signature. In this way we will keep in good communication regarding what has been assigned for the day.
Cannoneer Folder: Students will use the Cannoneer folder to bring home important papers and papers that must be signed by parents. Be sure to check for the folder and return it the next day.
Supplies: Students are expected to come to school each day with the necessary supplies. This includes loose leaf paper, notebooks, pencils, erasers, etc. Please make sure supplies are kept up to date and in good working order.
Attendance: Students must attend school every day except in the case of illness or other serious issue. When your child returns to school, please send him or her with a note explaining the absence. The Watervliet City School District has a strict attendance policy so this is very important.
Dismissal: If your child is going to have a change in dismissal procedure, you must submit a note in writing to the office. Dismissal CANNOT be changed without written permission from you. Telephone calls are not permitted to make a change in dismissal procedure – it MUST be in writing. This is strictly for the safety of all of our students.
Instrumental Music: If your child attends instrumental music please note that they will have a lesson time AND an after school band rehearsal. Lessons are conducted during class time and your child will be expected to make up whatever work was missed during that lesson time.
Medications: Any medications MUST be handled through the school nurse, Mrs. Vogel.
Birthdays/Holidays: Children are invited to celebrate birthdays in school, but due to a recent change, we ask that you refer to the school district's Wellness Policy for appropriate snacks. You may also want to consider sending some non-food ways to celebrate (pencils, erasers, etc.). Anything edible should be finger foods, so please also send in napkins if you are sending a food treat. Please do not send items like balloons or flowers.
