VOLUNTEERING
Volunteering is one of the most rewarding things I choose to spend my free time doing. Just like with teaching, being able to help others brings me great joy, and I make it a point to spend as much time as I can doing so. Here are a few of the ways I help:
Relay For Life holds a special place in my heart, and I have participated in the Green Island Relay on numerous occasions. I am very happy to say that my husband John is a colon cancer survivor, and as you can see in the picture his purple shirt was hard earned! In addition, together with my colleagues from WES, I participated as part of the Jacob's Angels team in memory of a beloved student.
I am also a long time supporter and participant in the "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" walk. I serve as one of the team leaders for WES each year. |
My daughter Sarah played competitive, travel softball for many years which eventually led to her playing softball in college. As a result, when the Watervliet High School girls needed coaches for some of their summer travel softball games, my husband John and I volunteered to step in and lend our many years of experience to the team. I was used to being a cheerleader, but this was my first time as a coach! Many thanks to Coach Thouin and the girls!

On Wednesday evenings you can find me at the Watervliet Public Library as a volunteer librarian. I am also a founding member of the "In Stitches" knitting and crocheting group which meets weekly at the library. I encourage all students and their families to stop by and check out materials, learn a craft, participate in an activity, or just say "hello"!
